If either of them had shouted, threatened, or brandished their diplomatic credentials, it probably wouldn't have been prohibitively difficult to cajole the hotel into providing them with both the luxury suites originally agreed upon, overbooking error be damned. In fact, though, even had the idea of doing such a thing so much as crossed either of their minds, there would have been no need; the Cohdopian ambassador and his youthful secretary got along very well and had no qualms about sharing living (in addition to working) space. And, as it was rather poor weather for a diplomatic summit, simply having a warm, dry place to stay seemed enough of a blessing. (What's more, they both knew that if they made a fuss and got the second suite, some other unfortunate client would be the one to suffer for it.)
There being only a single bed in the suite proved more of a snag, as at first both steadfastly refused to stop deferring to the other's right to it. However, this too came to little, since there really was nothing disagreeable about the obvious solution of sharing. (After all, it was king size!)
It had been a long day of travel, and the storm they'd found waiting for them upon their arrival to the city was still going strong outside the full-length windows. They stayed up just long enough to have baths and a modest bit of room service; then it was bedtime.
For his part, Hanatarou fell asleep almost instantly. And perhaps it was the chill in the air, or the thunder rumbling in the distance, or the prevailing mood of cozy well-being, but... it wasn't much longer before his sleeping form managed to migrate across the immense mattress and well into the personal space of his Excellency, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Cohdopia.
